I’m all for breaking down bad stereotype behavior… especially in big established engineering companies, but the best way to change an environment is to build a new one that works better. The old one will become irrelevant and naturally pass away… or be forced to adapt to keep up with the competition.

There is so much cool stuff happening on kickstarter and with events like the startup weekends, which do attract a better balance of women. I’d love to see initiatives that would make it easier for women to succeed by starting something new — so that we can have more companies that are equally balanced and progressive from the beginning.
